RESIDENT SUCCESS STORIES
Mrs. Macek
Over a four-year period, Mrs. Macek, a former registered nurse, relied on Hanover Hill on four separate occasions to help her recover from ailments including total knee replacement surgeries. During each stay, she received skilled rehabilitation which enabled her to quickly return to her home to pursue her active, independent lifestyle. During her second stay at Hanover Hill, Mrs. Macek began volunteering visiting residents in their rooms, reading to them, or writing for them. Since then, she has continued to be a positive force here, taking the city bus to the residence weekly to organize church groups, participate in baking projects, and assisting residents in other helpful ways. Says Mrs. Macek: “Hanover Hill enabled me to recuperate and get on with my life. Volunteering here by helping others gives me a wonderful sense of fulfillment.”
Mrs. Donovan
Mrs. Donovan, 85, first came to Hanover Hill after a traumatic fall in her home and subsequent acute hospitalization. For three weeks, Mrs. Donovan received physical and occupational therapies and skilled nursing services. She was able to return home and live independently for the next two years. Recently, while vacationing in Florida, Mrs. Donovan fell, broke her hip, and underwent hip surgery.
Says Mrs. Donovan: “The staff at Hanover Hill is kind and compassionate. The new facility is beautiful my room with a large bay window is very elegant. Because of the excellent care I received a few years ago, I was able to get back home and get on with my life. I’m sure I’ll be able to do the same this time around with all the support and services I’m receiving at Hanover Hill.”
Mr. Manter
Following cardiac surgery, 82-year-old Mr. Manter came to Hanover Hill where he received intensive physical and occupational therapies and skilled nursing services over a two-week period. His wife visited daily, regularly joining him for meals in the fine dining room. The Hanover Hill staff educated his wife and other family members on how to assist him upon his return home. Prior to leaving Hanover Hill, an occupational therapist evaluated his home for safety and adaptive aids. Today, Mr. Manter enjoys good health and an active lifestyle which includes work as an engineering consultant and time with his wife, their five children, 15 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He recently completed managing the construction of a new home for his daughter.
